Help Us Build a Library, ICT Room & SEN Classroom at one of our partner schools in Zanzibar.
We are launching a special campaign to raise £10,000 to expand learning opportunities at one of our partner schools in Zanzibar and we are looking for 40 generous founders to donate £250 each to make this vision a reality.
Why This Project Matters
Many communities in Zanzibar face significant social and economic challenges. Schools often operate with limited resources, overcrowded classrooms, and little access to specialist learning environments. Books, technology, and dedicated teaching spaces are scarce and for children with learning disabilities, appropriate educational provision is extremely limited.
Al-Ikhwan Nursery & Primary School currently educates around 250 children aged 4–15 from the local community.
At present:
The school does not enrol children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). While the school previously attempted to support SEN pupils, it became clear that their needs could not be properly met within a standard classroom setting.
Although the school has access to a specialist SEN teacher (shared across classes), asking children with learning disabilities to work at the same pace, in the same environment, proved ineffective and unfair to the pupils. As a result, children with special education needs in the local community currently have very limited or no access to appropriate education.

What the School is Asking For
The school owns land adjacent to its existing buildings and is seeking support to construct two new purpose-driven learning spaces:
A Library & ICT Room
This space will be used by all pupils and year groups and will:
- Provide access to books, learning materials, and basic ICT resources
- Support literacy, digital skills, and delivery of the national curriculum
- Provide a quiet and focused space for study
- Offer a flexible learning environment that can be used by different classes and age groups throughout the school day
- Benefit every child currently enrolled at the school, while also providing a valuable learning resource for future pupils and staff
A Dedicated SEN Classroom
This classroom will be:
- Dedicated to 40–45 children each year with specific learning disabilities from the local community
- Led by the school’s specialist SEN teacher
- Designed as a calm, flexible learning environment where pupils can learn at a pace and in a way that meets their needs
- Fully integrated within the school, promoting inclusion while providing appropriate support
While the classroom will not require complex specialist infrastructure, having a dedicated space is essential for meaningful SEN education to take place.
Project Impact
This project will have a meaningful and lasting impact on education within the community, directly benefiting approximately 290 children.
-
250 current pupils will gain access to the newly developed Library and ICT Room, providing improved learning resources, digital access, and a supportive environment for study.
-
An additional 40–45 children with SEN will be able to access educational support that is currently unavailable to them.
By enhancing facilities for existing students while introducing much-needed SEN provision, the project will both strengthen the quality of education for current pupils and expand inclusive learning opportunities for children who are currently not in education.
Become a Founder
We are seeking 40 donors to contribute £250 each, with each donation representing 1/40 of the total £10,000 project cost.
As a founder, you will have the option to be acknowledged on a plaque inside the new buildings, recognising your role in expanding access to education. (This is an incidental acknowledgement and does not affect Gift Aid eligibility.)
Once you have donated, please email Foundation@africanadventures.co.uk so we can ensure your name is displayed exactly as you wish.
How Your Donation Will Be Used
Funds raised will be used exclusively for the construction of the Library/ICT room and the SEN classroom at Al-Ikhwan Nursery & Primary School.
If we do not reach the full £10,000 target, we will use our limited unrestricted funds to complete the project.
If we exceed the target, any additional funds will be used to support further educational needs at the school, in line with our charitable objectives.
Will You Be One of the 40?
By supporting this project, you are not just building classrooms, you are opening the door to education for children who currently have no place to learn, while improving learning conditions for every child already at the school.
Thank you for helping us create inclusive, supportive, and enriching learning spaces where every child has the chance to thrive.
