What’s changing

Until now, we’ve operated under a 100% donation pledge, where every pound you gave went directly to our projects in Africa. While this model has served us well, it is no longer sustainable in our current operating environment.

In order to continue delivering high-impact, long-term support to the schools and communities we serve, we are updating our donation model. From 1st November:

90p in every £1 donated will go directly to our efforts supporting schools in Africa. 10p in every £1 will go towards the essential operational costs that make this work possible.

This change will allow us to invest in the infrastructure, people, and resources that ensure your donations are used effectively and responsibly, from safeguarding and monitoring, to partner support and impact reporting.

General Questions

We’re proud to have operated a 100% donation model for as long as possible. However, this approach is no longer financially sustainable and doesn’t allow us to cover the essential operational costs required to deliver our programmes safely, efficiently, and at scale.

This change ensures we can continue supporting our partner schools and programmes in Africa long-term, with strong governance, accountability, and the capacity to grow our impact.

From 1st November 2025, your donation will be used as follows:

90p in every £1 will go directly to our education programmes and support for partner schools in Africa.
10p in every £1 will go towards essential operational costs that make this work possible.

This model enables us to remain accountable, transparent, and effective.

Operational costs include the vital behind-the-scenes work that ensures your donations are used responsibly and effectively. These include:

  • Programme management and oversight – Our team works closely with partner schools in Kenya, Ghana, and Zanzibar to plan projects, manage budgets, and make sure each activity like building a classroom or launching sanitation facilities is completed safely and successfully. Your donation supports strong leadership and accountability on the ground.
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and impact reporting – After distributing school meals or resources, we track outcomes like uncreased capacity, attendance or academic performance. This helps us understand what’s working and how we can do better. This ensures your support leads to real, measurable change and that we keep improving.
  • Safeguarding and compliance – We work with children and young people every day. That’s why we invest in safeguarding training, background checks, and compliance with international standards to ensure all students, staff, and volunteers are protected. Your support helps us create safe, trusted spaces for every child we serve.
  • Staff and systems to support delivery – From coordinating volunteer programmes to managing infrastructure developments, our staff and systems make sure everything runs smoothly across borders, time zones, and communities. Operational support keeps our projects on track and communities at the centre.
  • Fundraising and donor communication – We keep you informed through impact reports, photos, videos, and stories from the field. Our Foundation team also works year-round to grow support for our projects and amplify our impact. When you give, we make sure you see the difference you’re making.

All of these are necessary to run a well-governed charity and ensure your gift creates long-term change.

The purpose of your donation remains the same, to support education and opportunity for children in Africa. What’s changing is how we allocate funds to make that support sustainable and effective.

If you’re happy with this update, you don’t need to take any action. Your donation will continue as usual under the new model from 1st November 2025.

If you have any questions or would prefer to stop your donation, please contact us at foundation@africanadventures.co.uk . If we do not hear from you by 1st December 2025, we will assume you are happy to continue supporting us under the new structure.
