Our aim is to achieve a more sustainable future for all through our work.
The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognise that ending poverty must go hand in hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.
We are committed to driving 7 of the 17 goals in the areas we work and we focus on:
Food Security Programmes
- 2. Zero Hunger
Increasing food security for the children at our partner schools in Kenya has been a key focus of African Adventures Foundation’s work. For many of the children we support, the food they receive at school might be the only meal they eat each day. Through the programme, every child receives two meals daily, giving them the energy they need to focus at school.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
- 3. Good Health and Well-Being
- 4. Quality Education
- 5. Gender Equality
- 6. Clean Water and Sanitation
Access to clean water and proper sanitation remains a major challenge for schools in Kenya’s urban communities. Many schools still face issues with unreliable water supply, damaged toilet facilities, and limited hygiene infrastructure, all of which contribute to poor health and lower school attendance. In 2025, our WASH programme continued to address these challenges by installing five new water tanks across three partner schools and refurbishing five toilet blocks at five schools.
These improvements have provided reliable access to clean water and safe sanitation facilities for 1,234 students and staff, reducing the spread of waterborne diseases and supporting a more hygienic learning environment.
Education and Infrastructure
- 1. No Poverty
- 3. Good Health and Well-Being
- 4. Quality Education
At African Adventures, we’re on a mission to support thousands of children in Africa during their education and to help provide them with more opportunities in life. Around one-fifth of children between the ages of 6 and 11 are out of school in Africa. By partnering with schools in Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar, we aim to impact the lives of many generations to come by helping our partner schools to grow and encourage more children to start school. We build new infrastructure- from new classrooms and toilets to kitchens and play areas – and support the delivery of the curriculum.
Responsible Volunteering
- 4. Quality Education
- 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth
Volunteers remain at the heart of African Adventures’ mission, helping to create meaningful change for both local communities and themselves. In 2025, volunteers continued to make a significant impact in our partner schools across Africa, focusing on classroom construction, infrastructure development, and teaching support.
Through hands-on support, volunteers assisted with refurbishing existing learning spaces and supporting small-scale infrastructure projects that improve the day-to-day experience for students and teachers. They also contributed to teaching time, working alongside school staff to deliver lessons, support literacy and numeracy, and provide one-on-one help to students who need extra attention. By working alongside local contractors and teachers, volunteers helped deliver high-quality work while ensuring projects remained community-led and sustainable.
The presence of volunteers brought extra hands to schools that often operate with limited staff and resources. In addition to their contributions in the classroom and on construction projects, volunteers inspired students and teachers alike, creating valuable cross-cultural exchanges and renewed energy within the schools.
In 2025, 1873 volunteers supported classroom construction, infrastructure projects, and teaching activities. 81157 Total number of volunteer hours.
The Good Period – Menstrual Health Management Programme
African Adventures is supporting menstruating girls at our partner schools through The Good Period, a Menstrual Health Management (MHM) programme that provides girls with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to manage their periods safely and with dignity.
The programme is delivered across schools in Ghana, Kenya, and Zanzibar, where many girls miss school each month due to lack of access to sanitary pads, limited menstrual education, and the stigma surrounding periods. Through a combination of reusable period poverty kits and health workshops, The Good Period ensures girls can stay in school, feel supported, and learn in a safe and informed environment.
Working closely with teachers, forming new partnerships with social enterprises, and community health groups, African Adventures Foundation delivers age-appropriate workshops covering menstrual health, hygiene, and the female body. We also support schools to track attendance and academic performance so that we can measure the impact of improved menstrual health management year on year.
Through The Good Period, our goal is to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals including, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality and clean water and sanitation, by ensuring every girl has the opportunity to learn without barriers.
