We’re excited to announce that we’re expanding our work in the Rift Valley, Kenya, by partnering with schools in Naivasha.

African Adventures was born in Kenya, with our first partnership established at the Walk Centre in 2009. Since then, our impact has grown significantly, thanks to our volunteers. Today, we work with 23 schools in Nakuru, and this year alone, over 1,200 volunteers will travel as part of our Kenya programme.

As more people are inspired to make a difference, we’re able to extend our reach even further. By building new partnerships with schools in Naivasha, we’re continuing to support communities in the Rift Valley and create more opportunities for meaningful, lasting impact.

Naivasha

Both Nakuru and Naivasha are located in the Rift Valley region and face very similar challenges in their communities and schools.  In the areas where we focus our work, many families experience overcrowded living conditions and limited access to clean water and sanitation. Many people rely on casual or seasonal work, which can make it difficult to afford essentials such as food, healthcare, and education. By partnering with schools in Naivasha, we can support more children across the Rift Valley to access quality education and greater opportunities for the future.

Naivasha is also one of Kenya’s most important economic centres. Agriculture plays a major role, particularly large-scale flower farms that export produce around the world. Tourism is another key industry, with nearby attractions such as Hell’s Gate National Park, Mount Longonot, and Crescent Island. Fishing and geothermal energy production in nearby Olkaria also contribute to the local economy.

Spotlight on: Rainbow School

Rainbow School is a small, privately run school in Naivasha, where around 70 children aged 3 to 10 come to learn each day. The school runs without government funding, and space and resources are limited. It was established in 2013 to provide education for children in the local area, and continues to play an important role in the community. However, like many schools in community-run schools, it faces ongoing challenges with space and infrastructure.

Without community-run schools like Rainbow, some children would struggle to access education due to the additional costs associated with government-funded schools, such as uniforms, desks, and textbooks. These schools play an important role in making education more accessible for children in the local community.

Some of Rainbow School’s aims for our partnership include:

  • Renovate classrooms to create a better learning environment
  • Construct a toilet block
  • Construct a perimeter wall around the school site
  • Fix the roofs of existing classrooms

The expansion will enable even more children in the Rift Valley to benefit from our Foundation’s programmes over time, including The Good Period Programme, which is set to be rolled out next year to give girls access to sanitary products and menstrual health education—supporting them to stay in school and continue their education.

Meet the Team

Our volunteer programmes are led by local staff who were born and raised in the countries our volunteers visit, ensuring an authentic and community-led approach. This expansion will also create more employment opportunities within the local area.

Cornie, Programme Co-ordinator for Naivasha, shared: “Having grown up in Naivasha, I’m excited to be part of this expansion and to see the impact our volunteers and donors will have in our communities. From renovating classrooms to building WASH facilities and providing much-needed one-to-one support in the classroom, our partner schools have ambitious goals for 2026 and beyond, and we’re looking forward to helping make them a reality.”
