During our recent Easter Programme, over 400 volunteers travelled with us to Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar, making a lasting impact at our partner schools and completing over 16,800 hours of volunteering.

From improving classrooms and building furniture to teaching lessons and supporting local communities, our volunteers helped create safer, brighter and more inspiring learning environments for thousands of students.

Read on to discover what was achieved during this year’s Easter Programme.

Ghana

Woe EP School

This Easter, volunteers continued to make a positive impact at Woe EP School by screeding the floor in the Grade One classroom, painting the interior of the Primary One classroom and supporting teachers by leading lessons across the school.

A generous volunteer group also donated stationery, PE kits, pens, pencils, footballs, reading books, footwear and exercise books, providing students with essential resources to support their education.

Future Leaders School

Through our partnership with Futurestars Charity, volunteers supported refurbishment works at their partner school, Future Leaders School. From washing classroom walls, floors, and desks to painting and refreshing the space, their impact has been seen and felt.

Representatives from the UK Professional Footballers’ Association, also volunteered there, delivering coaching sessions and youth engagement activities.

The Walk Centre

A returning volunteer group helped construct 30 desks and chairs for the Grade Four classroom.

These new desks provide students with their own dedicated learning space, allowing them to work more comfortably, stay focused and safely store their books and belongings. The layout also encourages collaboration by enabling students to face one another and support each other during lessons.

A second group helped to paint the inside and outside of the classrooms in the permanent classroom block, turning a worn classroom into an inspiring learning space.

Jubilee Academy

Volunteers continued improving the permanent classroom block at Jubilee Academy by tiling a classroom floor that was previously rough and uneven concrete. The new flooring has created a safer and more comfortable environment where students can focus on their studies.

Jubilee Academy also welcomed back a returning group, who continued strengthening their partnership with the school.

“Returning to the same community 15 months later was a real privilege. It allowed us to see the long-term impact of our last visit while building even deeper roots. Our students threw themselves into volunteering at Jubilee Academy with such heart, whether they were teaching, playing games/sports or getting stuck into painting the furniture.” Leanne, Group Leader.

The group also painted classroom tables and chairs, helping complete another learning space within the permanent classroom block.

Eileen Ngochoch Primary School

Volunteers supported the school by building more than 30 new desks, assisting in lessons and organising sports activities for students.

Thanks to the kindness of our volunteers, the football team at Eileen Ngochoch is now proudly wearing their donated matching football kits and is fully match-ready! To celebrate, our volunteers took to the pitch for a friendly game—ending in an exciting penalty shootout!

Volunteers also delivered menstrual health workshops to 250 girls, helping to break down stigma by educating students about menstruation and demonstrating how to use period products safely and confidently.

A returning group also helped create a safer learning environment by tiling a classroom floor. Previously, the dusty concrete floor made lessons uncomfortable for students and staff.

The group held a Teddy Tombola at their Christmas Fair to raise money to purchase lunch for each student, which is something not every student has each day. The group helped to prepare and serve lunch on their last day at the school.

Two years ago, when the group first volunteered at Eileen, the students had no reading books. During this trip, they kindly donated 358 books to the school. Students are choosing to spend their lunchtimes in the library, reading and enjoying stories.

Mercy Njeri Primary School

Volunteers transformed the learning environment by painting four classrooms, which included the blackboards. They created a brighter, more inspiring place for students to learn.

PGCE volunteers

The Walk Centre, Ungana Academy, and Mercy Njeri High School welcomed back a group of trainee teachers and undergraduate education students who teach at Primary Level. By volunteering as teaching assistants, the group were able to enhance their own learning by developing new skills to support them in their teaching careers.

St Trizah

A returning group continued its long-standing partnership with St Trizah by constructing tables and chairs for classrooms. The newly built desks include lockers, allowing students to safely store their books and stationery during the school day.

AGC Academy

AGC, one of our new partnerships for 2026, welcomed a group to their school during Easter.

AGC Academy supports 450 students aged 3–13 and faces significant funding challenges. Volunteers began the school’s first major project by constructing classroom tables and chairs. The new furniture means students are no longer crowded around small tables and can now sit comfortably with enough space to write and learn effectively.

Angalo Hills Academy

Volunteers transformed the learning environment at Angalo Hills by turning a classroom into an engaging place to learn by adding educational murals to the walls.

Andy Star

Volunteers helped construct classroom chairs from timber to ensure more children had comfortable seating to help them focus on their lessons. The volunteers then supported with teaching art and maths lessons.

One volunteer also handcrafted and donated 35 teddy bears, bringing joy to students across the school.

Love G

Volunteers spent the week sanding, varnishing and painting the parts to make metal chairs and wooden tables for the dining room, which previously had no furniture. Because of this, students either sat on the floor to have their lunch or sat outside in the hot sun.

The volunteers donated and prepared a celebratory lunch for the students, who ate it at the chairs and tables they had made using the plates and cups they donated.

Volunteers also left their mark in the classroom helping to teach maths and environment lessons.

Volunteers also helped to transform the classroom space by tiling a classroom floor, making it safer for the students who are as young as three.

Nakuru Grace Academy

African Adventures Foundation recently funded the construction of a classroom block at Nakuru Grace, which has allowed the school to expand from Nursery–Grade 6 to Grades 7–9, helping students to continue in a familiar, safe environment, reducing the financial and social strain of transferring schools and students dropping out of school altogether.

Volunteers continued with the project by constructing 24 pairs of desks and chairs, with some of them going into the new classroom block!

Many of our volunteers stepped out of their comfort zone during the trip, helping to lead lessons and inspire other students through sharing their knowledge in the classroom. Nakuru Grace students enjoyed their English lesson learning about verbs.

Greentech Academy

Last year, African Adventures Foundation built a permanent classroom block at Greentech, helping them take one step closer to registration with the Ministry of Education.

This year, the school’s focus is furnishing those classrooms, and volunteers got straight to work building 48 chairs and six tables.

The new chairs and tables will replace the old furniture, which didn’t give students enough space to work comfortably because they were crowded round the tables.

Gracekids Education Centre

Volunteers transformed the learning space in one of Gracekids’ classrooms by laying a concrete floor to create a level base before laying the tiles with help from fundis (builders).

Zanzibar

Al-Ikhwan Nursery & Primary School

Al-Ikhwan Nursery & Primary School welcomed their first volunteers of 2026, who left their mark by skimming and painting the outside of two classrooms. The learning environment has been transformed, creating a more engaging space for students to thrive.

Alongside the renovation work, volunteers planned and delivered daily lessons in subjects including English, maths, environmental studies and art.

Ubago Primary School

Our volunteers have been hard at work, continuing construction of the perimeter wall and building an entrance to the school, helping to create a safer, more secure environment for the whole school community.

The group spent the bank holiday sharing their love of football with the students and the community who came out to watch and support.

A fantastic match saw the group up 2-0 at half-time, showing great teamwork. However, after the teams mixed up at the break, the game finished 2–2.

Looking Ahead

The final plans are underway for our Summer programme, and we can’t wait to see our volunteers continue with some of these projects. Find out how you can get involved in making a difference at one of our partner schools.
