Taking a ‘gap year’ is an increasingly popular way to experience something new whilst taking time for yourself.

Whether it’s to aid your future education or career prospects, or to accomplish a personal challenge such as seeing a new country, a gap year is a great opportunity to take a step back and think about what you want to do next. Although invaluable at any age, many young people opt to go on gap years before they start further education or enter full-time employment.

If you’re aged between 16-19 and are considering taking some time out to travel next year, we think our Youth Development Programme (YDP) could be the perfect opportunity for you.

Travel to Ghana, Kenya, or Zanzibar for 10 nights in summer 2020

Each of our destinations are unique – you could choose to experience urban Kenya, rural Ghana, or historic Zanzibar. Whichever destination you opt for, our YDP gives you the chance to explore one of the world’s most fascinating continents, with its rich history, diverse landscapes, and colourful culture.

These 10-night trips are perfect for those who want to experience a new country, make a difference, and learn something new, but also may feel nervous about travelling for an extended period of time.

You’ll travel with other young people from across the UK, but still maintain a sense of independence

One of the great advantages of our YDP is that you can experience the independence of solo travel, whilst being supported by our friendly and experienced UK and in-country teams. It’s always reassuring to know that, should you need it, help and advice is easily available.

Taking a gap year is a great way to refocus your priorities and evaluate your life.

We help you throughout every step of your journey

After booking on our YDP, you’ll be assigned one of our friendly trip coordinators, who’ll arrange all aspects of your trip for you. They’ll be on hand to provide you with tips, support, and advice, and will be able to answer any questions or concerns you might have.

We take care of everything for you

The idea of arranging accommodation and booking flights can be daunting! When you book to travel with us, we’ll take care of all your trip arrangements, leaving you free to focus on preparing for your adventure. We’ve been arranging trips for over 10 years, and have learnt a thing or two along the way – so you can rest assured that you’ll be in good hands!

You’ll make a meaningful impact – and have fun!

In addition to the above, the central appeal of our YDP is the impact you’ll have at our partner projects. We work alongside our partner schools, responding to their needs and ensuring that any work we commit to doing will be meaningful, useful, and sustainable. You can rest assured that by travelling with us, you’ll be contributing to improving the lives of the people who use our partner projects.

As well as this, an adventure activity is included with each of the YDP trip packages, truly allowing you to experience the ‘wild side’ of Africa; from stunning safari drives, to tropical rainforest treks, and spectacular snorkelling experiences, there’s plenty to choose from!
